Advanced Degree Professionals: (EB-2: Employment-based second preference)

To qualify for this category the person must have an advanced degree (a masters degree or higher) or a bachelors degree followed by five years of progressive experience in the specialty field. In many cases, these degrees are obtained at a foreign university. In these circumstances, it must also be proven that the foreign degrees are equivalent to a degree from a U.S. college or university. This category does require a labor certification and job offer unless there is a national interest waiver.

We have handled cases for a breast cancer researcher at a prestigious East Coast university, a leading brownfields researcher, an expert on the artificial production of the rare spice saffron, a dairy nutrition expert, and musicians. If you would like additional information on the exceptional ability category, please contact our office and visit "How can I find out if I have a good case?"

For information on what happens after you have obtained advanced degree professional status, please visit our section entitled "Consular Processing and Adjustment of Status."
